Caroline of Berlepsch

Caroline of Berlepsch was born in 1773 in Germany as the daughter of a noble family. She was interested in literature and music and developed a close friendship with the writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. In 1801, Caroline married the Russian Count Alexander von Benckendorff and moved to Russia. She was recognized for her intelligence and served as a hostess for high society events. After her husband's death in 1812, Caroline returned to Germany where she continued to write and publish poetry. She also supported various social and charitable causes, including the education of women. Caroline died in 1843 at the age of 69, leaving behind a legacy as a talented writer and advocate for women's rights.
