Duke Peter Alexandrovich of Oldenburg
Duke Peter Alexandrovich of Oldenburg was born on March 15, 1923, in Paris, France. He was the son of Grand Duke Alexander of Russia and Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna of Russia. Peter was a prince of the House of Romanov and Oldenburg, and he was also the nephew of the last Tsar of Russia, Nicholas II. During World War II, Peter served in the German military, and after the war, he was imprisoned by the Soviet Union for nearly a decade. Eventually, he was released, and he settled in France, where he married his first wife, Thyra von Westernhagen. In the 1950s, Peter moved to the United States and began a successful career in business. He later married his second wife, Anne-Marie von Schutzbar genannt Milchling. Peter was known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in the areas of education and the arts. He was a supporter of both the Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic. Peter died on January 11, 2004, at the age of 80.
