Duke Peter Georgievich of Oldenburg

Duke Peter Georgievich of Oldenburg (1922-2004) was born into the Oldenburg royal family in Germany. During World War II, he served as a cavalry officer in the German army, but was captured by the Soviet Union and spent time as a prisoner of war. After the war, he moved to Paris and later London, working in the fashion industry. In 1960, he married his second wife, Princess Marie Cécile of Prussia, and they had two children. Duke Peter became the head of the Oldenburg family in 1980 following the death of his uncle, and worked to promote the family's history and cultural heritage. He also served as the president of the International Federation of Horse Racing Authorities. Duke Peter lived a relatively quiet life, spending much of his time on his estate in Lower Saxony, Germany. He passed away in 2004 at the age of 82.
