Edward Eliot, 3rd Earl of St Germans

Edward Eliot, 3rd Earl of St Germans, was born on April 1, 1798, in Port Eliot, Cornwall, United Kingdom. He was the son of William Eliot, 2nd Earl of St Germans, and his wife, Georgiana Augusta, daughter of General John Dyke Acland. In 1819, Edward succeeded his father as the 3rd Earl of St Germans.

Edward Eliot was educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford. He served as a Member of Parliament for Liskeard from 1820 to 1832. After the Reform Act, he was elected as MP for East Cornwall from 1832 to 1845, and later as MP for Devonport from 1852 to 1865. During his time in Parliament, he was known for his support of agricultural improvement, railway construction, and the Corn Laws.

In addition to his political career, Edward was interested in the arts and literature. He wrote several plays and a volume of poems, and was a patron of the arts. He was also a member of the Royal Society of Literature and the Society of Antiquaries.

Edward Eliot was married twice. His first wife, Lady Jemima Cornwallis, died in 1832, and he later married Harriet Baring, daughter of Sir Thomas Baring, in 1835. He had six children from his second marriage.

Edward Eliot died on January 7, 1877, at Port Eliot. He was succeeded as Earl of St Germans by his son, William.
