Edward FitzGerald, 7th Duke of Leinster

Edward FitzGerald, 7th Duke of Leinster, was born on May 27, 1892, in London, England. He was the eldest son of Gerald FitzGerald, 5th Duke of Leinster, and his wife, Marie Adelaide "Queenie" Wyndham. FitzGerald was educated at Eton College and the Royal Military College at Sandhurst. He served in World War I and was awarded the Military Cross for his services as a Royal Flying Corps pilot. In 1922, FitzGerald succeeded his brother Maurice as Duke of Leinster, making him one of the wealthiest men in Ireland. He held various positions, including the President of the Royal Dublin Society and the President of the Irish Georgian Society. FitzGerald was married twice, first to May Phoebe Parsons in 1917, with whom he had two children, and then to Kathleen Kennedy, sister of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, in 1944. They had four children together before Kathleen's death in a plane crash in 1948. FitzGerald died on March 8, 1976, at the age of 83, and was succeeded as Duke of Leinster by his eldest son, Gerald FitzGerald, 8th Duke of Leinster.
