Edward Stanley, 6th Baron Stanley of Alderley

Edward Stanley, 6th Baron Stanley of Alderley, was born on November 25, 1850, in London, England. He was the son of Edward Stanley, 2nd Baron Stanley of Alderley, and Mary Sibell Adelaide Bootle-Wilbraham. He was educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford, where he studied classics and modern history. In 1874, he married Henrietta Blanche, daughter of Reverend William Blundell, and they had five children together. Stanley succeeded his father as Baron Stanley of Alderley in 1869, and he served as a Liberal Party Member of Parliament for Oldham from 1885 to 1886. Stanley was an active member of several philanthropic and educational organizations, including the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies, the Royal Geographical Society, and the Workers' Educational Association. He was also involved in local government, serving as a county councilor for Cheshire. Stanley died on June 17, 1931, in Alderley Park, Cheshire, England, at the age of 80. His eldest son, Arthur Stanley, succeeded him as the 7th Baron Stanley of Alderley.
