Elizabeth of York, Duchess of Suffolk

Elizabeth of York, Duchess of Suffolk (1444–1503), was the daughter of Edward IV of England and the sister of the Princes in the Tower. She was married to John de la Pole, Duke of Suffolk, and together they had two children, John and Edmund. After her husband's death, Elizabeth devoted herself to the welfare of her children and her estate. She also became a patron of women's education, supporting the foundation of Queens' College, Cambridge, and promoting the education of her own daughters. Elizabeth's life was marked by political turmoil and family strife, including the Wars of the Roses and the execution of her brother, Richard III. She also saw the rise of the Tudor dynasty, including the marriages of her brothers and sisters to members of the Tudor family. Throughout her life, Elizabeth remained dedicated to her family and her duties as a noblewoman. She died in 1503 and was buried beside her husband in the Carthusian monastery in Suffolk.
