Francis Osborne, 5th Duke of Leeds

Francis Osborne, 5th Duke of Leeds, was born in 1751 in Yorkshire, England. He inherited the title of Duke of Leeds at the age of 12 following the death of his father. He served as a Member of Parliament for Eye, Suffolk from 1774 to 1784, and then for Helston, Cornwall from 1784 to 1789. He also served as the Foreign Secretary under Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger from 1783 to 1791. Osborne was known for his lavish lifestyle and extravagant spending, which eventually led to significant financial difficulties. In 1799, he was forced to sell his ancestral home, Hornby Castle, to pay off his debts. He married two times but had no surviving children. He died in 1799 at the age of 48, and his title passed on to a distant cousin.
