Frederick William II of Prussia

Frederick William II of Prussia was born on September 25, 1744, in Berlin, Germany, into the royal family of the Hohenzollern dynasty. He became the King of Prussia in 1786 after the death of his uncle, Frederick William I. Frederick William II was known for his laziness and lack of ambition, which led to an ineffective reign. During his reign, he faced several military and political challenges, such as the French Revolution, the partition of Poland, and the War of the First Coalition. Despite his weaknesses as a ruler, Frederick William II was a great patron of the arts, and he sponsored many artists, including Mozart and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Frederick William II died on November 16, 1797, in Potsdam, Germany, and was succeeded by his son, Frederick William III.
