King Christian X of Denmark was born on September 26, 1870. He became king in 1912, succeeding his father, Frederick VIII. During his reign, Denmark remained neutral during World War I despite being pressured to join at various times. He remained a symbol of Danish resistance during Germany's occupation of Denmark during World War II. He famously rode through the streets of Copenhagen every day during the occupation without any guard to show that the city was still under Danish control. Christian X passed away on April 20, 1947, at the age of 76.
