Louis Auguste, Prince of Dombes

Louis Auguste de Bourbon, also known as the Prince of Dombes, was born on March 4, 1700, in Versailles, France. He was the third son of Louis, Duke of Bourbon, and his wife Louise-Françoise de Bourbon. As a member of the French royal family, Louis Auguste was raised in luxury and received an excellent education. However, he was often overshadowed by his two older brothers, Louis, Duke of Burgundy, and Philippe, Duke of Anjou, who were both considered more important heirs to the throne. In 1710, Louis Auguste's father died, and his older brother Louis became the Dauphin of France, making him the heir to the throne. Louis Auguste was then given the title of Prince of Dombes and was less involved in politics and public life than his siblings. In 1723, Louis Auguste married his first cousin, Louise Bénédicte de Bourbon, who was the daughter of his aunt, Françoise-Marie de Bourbon. They had three children together but their marriage was not a happy one, and they eventually separated. Louis Auguste died on May 1, 1755, at the age of 55. He was buried in the Église des Carmélites in Paris. Despite his noble birth, Louis Auguste is not remembered for any significant accomplishments or contributions to history.
