Margot Asquith, Countess of Oxford and Asquith, was born on February 2, 1864, in Peebles, Scotland. She grew up in a wealthy family and was educated at home. In 1894, she married Herbert Henry Asquith, a politician who would become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 1908. Margot was a popular hostess and socialite in London, and her famous parties attracted many politicians and intellectuals. She was also a talented writer and wrote a number of novels, plays, and articles. During World War I, Margot was involved in various charitable organizations and visited wounded soldiers in hospitals. She also worked to secure better living conditions for women munitions workers. After her husband's resignation as Prime Minister in 1916, Margot remained active in politics and continued to support her husband's career. She was made a dame in 1925 and became a member of the Royal Society of Literature in 1933. Margot Asquith died on July 28, 1945, at the age of 81. She is remembered for her wit, intelligence, and social charm, as well as for her contributions to literature and social causes.
