Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn

Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn was born on May 1, 1850, in London, England. He was the seventh child and third son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Prince Arthur served in the British army, rising to the rank of Field Marshal. He also served as the Governor General of Canada from 1911 to 1916, where he worked to strengthen ties between Canada and the United Kingdom. In 1879, Prince Arthur married Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia, with whom he had three children. He died on January 16, 1942, at the age of 91. During his life, Prince Arthur was known for his military service, his dedication to public service, and his passion for the arts. He was a patron of several artistic organizations, and his collection of paintings and sculptures is now housed in the Royal Collection.
