Prince Henry of the Netherlands
Prince Henry of the Netherlands was born on June 13, 1820 in The Hague, Netherlands. He was the third son of King William II and his wife, Queen Anna Pavlovna. In 1839, at the age of 19, he joined the Dutch Navy and became a midshipman. He rose through the ranks and eventually became a Vice Admiral. In 1853, Henry married Princess Amalia of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach and they had four children together. Henry was known for his interest in oceanography, and he sponsored several scientific expeditions to investigate ocean currents and other marine phenomena. In 1868, he became involved in a political scandal, which led to his resignation from the Navy. He then entered politics and was elected to the Dutch parliament. He was known for his progressive views and advocated for reform in education and social welfare. In 1879, Henry's wife died and he never remarried. He continued to be active in politics and was appointed as an envoy to Spain in 1883. He died on January 13, 1879 in The Hague at the age of 58.
