Prince Jean, Duke of Guise

Prince Jean, Duke of Guise, was born on September 4, 1914, in Paris, France, as the son of Prince Jean of Orléans and Princess Isabelle of Guise. He was the grandson of Prince Philippe, Count of Paris, who was the head of the House of Orléans, one of the oldest noble families in France. Jean studied law at the University of Paris and also served with the French Army during World War II. After the war, he became involved in politics and served in various government positions in France. In 1946, Jean married his cousin, Princess Isabelle of Orléans-Bragance. They had four children together. In the early 1960s, Jean became involved in the independence movement in Algeria, which was then a French colony. He was a strong supporter of Algerian independence and even went to Algeria to support the Algerian cause. Jean died on April 25, 1999, in Paris, France. He was succeeded as the Duke of Guise by his son, Prince Henri, who became the head of the House of Orléans after his grandfather's death in 1999.
