Prince Ludwig Philipp of Thurn and Taxis

Ludwig Philipp of Thurn and Taxis was born on November 23, 1901, in Regensburg, Germany, as the oldest son of Albert I, 8th Prince of Thurn and Taxis, and Archduchess Margarete Klementina of Austria. He was raised in a wealthy and privileged family and received his education at the Theresianum in Vienna and the University of Munich. During World War II, Ludwig Philipp served as an officer in the German military, achieving the rank of Major. After the war, he was arrested and held as a prisoner of war by the Allies until his release in 1947. He then returned to his family's estate in Regensburg, where he became active in charitable and cultural organizations. He was also a passionate collector of art, books, and antiques. Ludwig Philipp married his first wife, Princess Elisabeth Helene of Thurn and Taxis, in 1927, but the marriage was annulled in 1933. He then married his second wife, Princess Maria Anna of Braganza, in 1950, and they had two children together. Ludwig Philipp died on June 22, 1952, in Regensburg at the age of 50. He was succeeded by his younger brother, Franz Joseph, as the 9th Prince of Thurn and Taxis.
