Prince Oskar of Prussia

Prince Oskar of Prussia was born on July 27, 1888, in the city of Marmorpalais, Potsdam, Germany. He was the fifth son and seventh child of Crown Prince Wilhelm and Crown Princess Augusta Victoria. The prince grew up in a privileged environment being the grandson of Emperor Wilhelm II. In 1906 he joined the German Navy and became a sub-lieutenant. Later, he worked in the Military Cabinet and became a Grenzschutz officer. During World War I, Prince Oskar fought in the Western Front, where he was awarded the Iron Cross. After the war, he continued to serve in the German Navy as a naval attaché in the United States and later, in Sweden. In 1919, Prince Oskar married Countess Ina Marie Helene Adele Elsie von Bassewitz. They had three children, Prince Oskar, Prince Burchard, and Princess Herzeleide. After his father's death in 1941, he succeeded him as the head of the House of Hohenzollern. Despite retiring from the military life, Prince Oskar participated in political activities and represented Germany in international events. In 1933, he became a member of the Nazi party, Nazi stormtroopers, and the Sturmabteilung (SA). He was a supporter of the Nazi regime and as such, his reputation was affected, creating some controversy in the post-war era. Prince Oskar died on January 27, 1958, in Frankfurt, Germany.
