Princess Alexandra of Hanover (1882–1963)

Princess Alexandra of Hanover was born on February 1, 1882 in the Duchy of Brunswick, Germany. She was the only child of Prince Ernst August of Hanover and Princess Thyra of Denmark. Alexandra was the granddaughter of King Christian IX of Denmark and the great-niece of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom.

Alexandra had a privileged upbringing and was educated privately. She was known for her beauty and charm, and was a popular socialite in European high society.

In August 1904, Alexandra married Prince Friedrich Franz of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The couple had two children, a son and a daughter, before divorcing in 1928.

During World War II, Alexandra lived in France and Switzerland, where she was active in charitable organizations. After the war, she returned to Germany and lived in various places, including her family's estates in Hanover and Austria.

Alexandra died on September 30, 1963 in Überlingen, Germany at the age of 81. She was buried in the family mausoleum at the Gmunden Castle in Austria.

Princess Alexandra of Hanover (1882-1963) y Frederick Francis IV, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg (1882-1945) se casaron en 1904. Fue un matrimonio concertado por sus respectivas familias reales y se consideró un enlace político entre ambas casas.

La pareja tuvo dos hijos, el príncipe Christian Ludwig y la princesa Olga, pero el matrimonio no fue feliz. Frederick Francis era conocido por sus relaciones extramatrimoniales y Alexandra sufría de problemas de salud mental.

En 1919, después de la Primera Guerra Mundial, el Gran Ducado de Mecklenburg fue abolido y Frederick Francis perdió su título de Gran Duque. La pareja se separó ese mismo año y Alexandra se mudó con sus hijos a Austria.

En 1926, Alexandra se casó con el príncipe Friedrich von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen y se alejó de la vida pública. Frederick Francis murió en 1945 en la Alemania nazi, mientras que Alexandra falleció en 1963 en Austria.
