Princess Anastasia of Montenegro
Princess Anastasia of Montenegro (1875-1971) was born in Cetinje, Montenegro as the daughter of King Nicholas I of Montenegro. She grew up in a royal family and lived a privileged life. In 1895, Anastasia married Grand Duke Nicholas Nikolaevich of Russia, a member of the Russian royal family. The couple had two daughters, but their marriage was unhappy due to Nicholas' infidelity. During World War I, Anastasia helped to care for wounded soldiers and organized medical aid for the Russian army. After the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, she and her husband fled Russia and eventually settled in France. Anastasia spent the rest of her life in exile, living in various countries including Italy, Spain, and the United States. She continued to play an active role in the Russian community, supporting Russian refugees and cultural events. Anastasia died in 1971 at the age of 96 and was buried in her family's tomb in Cetinje, Montenegro.
