Princess Eleonore of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich

Princess Eleonore of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich was born on May 12, 1871, in Hohensolms, Germany. She was the daughter of Prince Hermann and Princess Agnes of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich. In 1896, Eleonore married Prince Ludwig Heinrich of Hesse-Kassel, who was later known as Prince Ludwig of Hesse and by Rhine. They had four children together, including Prince Philipp of Hesse and by Rhine, who later served as the head of the House of Hesse. Eleonore was a patron of the arts and supported various charitable causes throughout her life. She was also an accomplished writer, publishing books and articles under the pen name "E. Graviola." During World War II, Eleonore and her family were evacuated from their home in Kassel to a small village in Bavaria. After the war, they returned to Kassel and Eleonore continued to carry out her charitable work until her death on November 16, 1937.
