Princess Françoise of Orléans (1902–1953)

Princess Françoise of Orléans was born on December 25, 1902, in the Château de la Marche, near Jouars-Pontchartrain, France. She was the youngest daughter of Prince Philippe of Orléans, Duke of Orléans, and his wife, Princess Marie of the two Sicilies. During World War I, Princess Françoise and her family left France and lived in various countries, such as Spain, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. They returned to France after the war in 1919. In 1923, Princess Françoise married Prince Christopher of Greece and Denmark, becoming Princess Françoise of Greece and Denmark. They had two children, Princess Alexandra and Prince Michael. During World War II, Princess Françoise and her family fled Greece and went to Egypt. After the war, they returned to Greece, where Princess Françoise became involved in charity work and served on the board of the Athens Opera. Princess Françoise died in Athens on February 25, 1953, at the age of 50, from a heart attack. She was buried in the royal cemetery at Tatoi Palace outside Athens.
