Princess Louise of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (1800–1831)
Princess Louise of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg was born in Altenburg, Germany in 1800. She was the eldest daughter of Augustus, Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and his wife, Duchess Louise Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Louise had three younger sisters and two younger brothers. In 1817, Louise married Prince Ernst I of Hohenlohe-Langenburg and became Princess of Hohenlohe-Langenburg. They had five children together. Louise was known for her philanthropy and actively supported charitable causes, especially the education of women. She founded schools and supported the establishment of nursing institutions. Louise died in 1831 at the age of 31 from complications related to childbirth. Her husband later remarried and their descendants continue to live in Hohenlohe-Langenburg.
