Princess Maria Pia of Bourbon-Parma
Princess Maria Pia of Bourbon-Parma was born on September 24, 1934, in Naples, Italy. She was the eldest child of Prince Umberto of Italy and Princess Marie-José of Belgium. During her childhood, she lived in Italy, France, and Switzerland. In 1955, she married Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia in a grand ceremony in Belgrade. They had three children, but the marriage ended in divorce in 1962. Princess Maria Pia dedicated her life to charitable work, particularly in the field of education. She founded the Villa Pia International School in Rome, which is still operating today. She was also a patron of many cultural and artistic organizations, including the Venice Biennale and the Salzburg Festival.
