Princess Yolanda of Savoy

Princess Yolanda of Savoy (1901-1986) was the daughter of King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy and Queen Elena. She had a privileged upbringing, attending a private school for royal children in Rome. In 1923, she married Count Giorgio Calvi di Bergolo, but the marriage was unhappy and they separated after having two children. During World War II, Princess Yolanda served as a nurse with the Italian Red Cross. After the war, she devoted her time to various charitable causes and became active in the Roman Catholic Church, eventually becoming a Benedictine nun. She founded the Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti in Rome, a center for cultural and spiritual activities. Princess Yolanda was known for her humility and dedication to service, and was greatly respected and beloved by the Italian people. She died in 1986 at the age of 85.
