Queen Marie of Romania was born on October 29, 1875, in Eastwell Park, Kent, England. She was the daughter of Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh and Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia. Queen Marie of Romania played a significant role in shaping the country's cultural and political landscape as it emerged as an independent nation in the aftermath of World War I. As a young woman, Queen Marie was known for her beauty, charm, and intelligence. She was married to Crown Prince Ferdinand of Romania in 1893 and they had six children together. In 1914, Ferdinand succeeded his uncle, King Carol I, and Marie became Queen consort. During World War I, Queen Marie worked tirelessly to aid soldiers and civilians affected by the conflict. After the war, she played a pivotal role in the creation of Greater Romania, an enlarged state that included Transylvania, Bukovina, and other territories that had been part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Queen Marie was also a talented writer and artist, and she used her talents to promote Romanian culture and heritage. Her memoir, "The Story of My Life," was published in 1934 and became a bestseller. Queen Marie died on July 18, 1938, at the age of 62. She was mourned by the Romanian people and remembered as a beloved and influential figure in the nation's history.
