Richard of Shrewsbury, 1st Duke of York

Richard of Shrewsbury, 1st Duke of York, was born in 1473 in Shrewsbury, England, the second son of King Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville. He was also the brother of Edward V, who briefly succeeded their father on the throne in 1483. In that same year, Richard of Shrewsbury and his brother were declared illegitimate by their uncle, Richard III, who took the throne for himself. The two boys were then imprisoned in the Tower of London, and were never seen or heard from again. Their fate remains a mystery, and it is uncertain whether they were murdered or somehow managed to escape.
