Sophie of Mecklenburg-Güstrow

Sophie of Mecklenburg-Güstrow (ca. 1557-1631) was the Queen of Denmark and Norway from 1572 to 1588, and a political advisor to her son, Christian IV, during his reign. She was born into the German nobility and married King Frederick II of Denmark when she was just 14, becoming queen the following year. Sophie was known for her intelligence, political savvy, and commitment to the Lutheran Reformation. She exerted considerable influence over her husband and, after his death, continued to play an active role in Danish politics. During Christian IV's reign, Sophie served as his chief advisor and helped to secure her family's future through advantageous marriages and strategic alliances. She lived to see her grandson, Frederick III, become king of Denmark-Norway in 1648.
