William Ward, 4th Earl of Dudley

William Ward, 4th Earl of Dudley was born on January 2, 1867, in London, England, to the 1st Marquess of Dudley. He was educated at Eton and Oxford before entering politics. Ward was first elected to parliament in 1895 and served in various positions, including as a junior minister for the colonies, until his father's death in 1900, when he inherited the title of Earl of Dudley. As the new Earl, he served as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland from 1902 to 1905, and then as Governor-General of Australia from 1908 to 1911, where he was involved in the construction of the new Parliament House in Canberra. He also sponsored expeditions to Antarctica and the Himalayas. After returning to England, Lord Dudley continued to serve in politics and was chairman of the National Union of Conservative and Constitutional Associations from 1916 to 1937. He was also involved in several business ventures, including coal mining, and was on the board of the BBC. William Ward, 4th Earl of Dudley passed away on June 29, 1932, at the age of 65.
